In 1951, a young woman and mom-to-be sat down at her kitchen table equipped only with a dream and 24-karat gold monogram lettering, handbags, and belts purchased from her father’s leather goods company. That woman was Lillian Vernon, the founder of the Lillian Vernon Corporation. When it went public in 1987, it was the first company traded on the American Stock Exchange founded by a woman. Many successful years later, her legacy continues.
